When all else fails, hit the nostalgic note. At least, that seems to be the idea in the entertainment industry these days. They’ve rebooted Full House, MacGuyver, and the X-Files, and movies like Lethal Weapon and The Exorcist were made into television adaptations. Netflix’ Stranger Things feels like a perfect mix of The Goonies, Stand By Me, and E.T. Say what you want, but it seems to be working, and now Stephen King’s It is ready to get in on the action.
On Wednesday Warner Bros. Pictures released the trailer for the big screen version of King’s 1986 novel, and, like Stranger Things, it has all the typical 80s childhood danger, exploring, and bonding elements you’d expect, as well as the nostalgic dress and set that throw you right back into the past. In other words, this isn’t an It for modern times; it’s the one you wanted.
The creepy trailer was met with excitement upon its debut, but as fans wait for the September 8th release, there’s still one big question to ponder: Will Bill Skarsgård live up to Tim Curry’s Pennywise?
The teaser looks promising. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype.
